When it comes to culture-shifting American awards shows, game recognizes game.
As announced on Tuesday, the 2022 GRAMMYs broadcast — which aired Sunday, April 3, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas — has been nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) at the 2022 Emmys.
In the former category, the 2022 GRAMMYs stand next to other towering TV events of the year, including ABC's "Live In Front Of A Studio Audience: The Facts Of Life And Diff'rent Strokes"; NBC's "The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar And 50 Cent"; and CBS' "The Tony Awards Present: Broadway's Back!"
Additionally, the 2022 GRAMMYs broadcast has been nominated for Emmys for Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special; Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special; Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special; and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Special.
The 2022 GRAMMYs show, officially known as the 64th GRAMMY Awards, was a momentous return to an in-person ceremony following a hybrid awards show in 2021, which was also nominated for an Emmy in the same category last year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The star-studded night featured standout performances from GRAMMY winners Silk Sonic, Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and many others. The memorable night also saw Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky deliver an impassioned speech, via a pre-recorded video telecast, in which he urged the global community to raise their voices against the muzzling of his war-torn country.
The 2022 Emmys will air Monday, Sept. 12, on NBC and Peacock at 5 p.m. PT. Watch to find out if Music's Biggest Night will be crowned the biggest night of TV!
