Invitations to join the Recording Academy’s 2025 New Member Class have gone out — nearly 3,600 of them — and the reactions say it all. Across social media, music creators are reflecting on what it means to be recognized by their peers and welcomed into the Academy’s community.

Some music industry professionals and creatives shared feelings of validation. Others posted tearful thanks and thoughtful reflections. Most called it a milestone. For many, it’s the kind of moment they dreamed of.

Each year, the Recording Academy invites a new class of artists, producers, engineers, songwriters, executives, and other music professionals to help shape the future of the industry. This year’s class continues the Academy’s effort to build a more inclusive and representative membership: 49 percent of invitees identify as women, 56 percent as people of color, and 60 percent are under the age of 40.

"GRAMMY membership opens up an incredible set of opportunities," said Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy. Beyond participation in the GRAMMY Awards process, members gain access to programs like the Professional Development Speaker Series and Songwriter Summit; mentorship through member mixers and peer networking events; career-building tools such as the GRAMMY Go app and MusiCares’ health and wellness services. Voting members can run for Academy leadership at both the Chapter and national levels.

The Recording Academy’s mission includes advocating for creators’ rights, investing in music education and preservation. Becoming a member means helping to advance that mission — not just for today’s music professionals, but for generations to come.

The process starts with an application and peer review. Music creators and professionals apply by March 1. If approved, they’re invited to join. (GRAMMY U, the Academy’s young professionals program, follows a different process.) Invitees must accept their membership by July 31 to take part in this year’s Online Entry Process (OEP), which allows members to submit recordings, videos, and other eligible work for GRAMMY consideration in 2026.

Based on the flood of posts, the message is clear: this moment matters. Below, a few highlights from the 2025 invitee class — in their own words.
