- Born Béla Anton Leoš Fleck on July 10, 1958, in New York City
- Early in his career, banjoist Béla Fleck toured with the American progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival. In 1988 Fleck began recording and touring with Béla Fleck And The Flecktones, a project featuring Victor Wooten, keyboardist/harmonica player Howard Levy and Roy "Future Man" Wooten.
- Fleck won his first career GRAMMY for Best Country Instrumental Performance for 1995 for "Hightower," sharing honors with Alison Brown, Asleep At The Wheel and Edgar Meyer.
- Did you know? An onstage collaboration between Béla Fleck And The Flecktones and Dave Matthews Band resulted in a 32-minute live version of the Dave Matthews Band hit "#41."
- In 2016 Fleck and tour mate Chick Corea invited college students to a show in New Orleans as part of the GRAMMY U SoundChecks program.
- In 2007 Fleck performed at charity concerts in Germany to help raise awareness of AIDS.
