Biography

"Anything I've ever said, I certainly was feeling at the time. But I think I've calmed down a bit. My overall look on things is a lot more mature than it used to be." — Eminem

  • Born  Marshall Bruce Mathers III on Oct. 17, 1972, in St. Joseph, Missouri
  • Eminem's 1999 major label debut, The Slim Shady LP, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. It ranked No. 275 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In 2002 he scored his first No. 1 hit with "Lose Yourself," a song from the 8 Mile soundtrack.
  • Eminem won his first two GRAMMY Awards for Best Rap Solo Performance ("My Name Is") and Best Rap Album (The Slim Shady LP) at the 42nd GRAMMY Awards. He performed four times at the GRAMMY Awards between 2001 and 2011, beginning with his iconic duet of "Stan" with Elton John at the 43rd GRAMMY Awards.
  • Did you know? Eminem was discovered by an Interscope Records staff member after placing second at the 1997 Rap Olympics in Los Angeles. Following the discovery, Jimmy Iovine played a copy of Eminem's debut EP for Dr. Dre, who immediately responded, "Find him. Now."
  • Eminem founded the Marshall Mathers Foundation in 2002, serving at-risk youth.
