Biography

"It's not about being perfect, it's not about sounding absolutely correct, it's not about what goes on in a computer. It's about what goes on in here [your heart] and what goes on in here [your head]." — Dave Grohl

  • Band members: Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear

  • Formed in 1994 in Seattle, Washington

  • The band's second album, 1997's The Colour And The Shape, became their first to crack the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Their Top 10 follow-up, 1999's There Is Nothing Left To Lose, spawned the Billboard Hot 100 hit "Learn To Fly" (No. 19).

  • The band won their first career GRAMMYs for 2000, picking up awards for Best Rock Album (There Is Nothing Left to Lose) and Best Short Form Music Video "Learn To Fly." The band made their GRAMMY performance debut at the 45th GRAMMY Awards in 2003, performing "All My Life."

  • Did you know? Foo Fighters hold the current GRAMMY record for most wins in the Best Rock Album category, grabbing honors in 2000 (There Is Nothing Left to Lose), 2003 (One By One), 2007 (Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace) and 2011 (Wasting Light).

  • At the 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute to Tom Petty, Foo Fighters played "Honey Bee" and later joined Gary Clark Jr. for a performance of "Breakdown." The annual gala raises funds for MusiCares, which provides services and resources that cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies for music people.

  • In 2015 Foo Fighters played a special concert at the Forum in Los Angeles that doubled as Grohl's 46th birthday party. Proceeds from tickets were distributed to three charities: MusiCares, Rock School Scholarship Fund and Sweet Relief.
