Biography

"I'm experimenting with my voice. Every day I do different things with it, and if I feel it's appropriate I do it on the record."

  • Born Mariah Carey on March. 27, 1970, in Huntington, New York
  • Mariah Carey's self-titled debut album was released in 1990 and hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, where it stayed for eleven weeks. The album included the No. 1 hits "Vision Of Love," "Love Takes Time" and "Someday."
  • Carey took home her first two GRAMMYs, including Best New Artist, at the 33rd GRAMMY Awards in 1991. She made her GRAMMY performance debut that same year when she sang "Vision Of Love."
  • Did you know? Carey's godmother is GRAMMY-winning R&B artist Patti LaBelle.
  • Carey has donated more than $1 million to the Fresh Air Fund. The organization provides free summer experiences for inner-city children from low-income communities, and even named Camp Mariah after the pop singer.
