  • Band Members: Kurt Cobain (Died April 8, 1994), Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl
  • Formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987.
  • Nirvana's biggest hit came in 1991 with the Billboard Hot 100 No. 6 smash "Smells Like Teen Spirit." The song  has been certified platinum by the RIAA. They followed up with "Come As You Are," which hit the Top 40. Both songs were featured on their sophomore album, Nevermind, considered by critics as the cornerstone of the grunge subgenre.
  • Nirvana earned their first GRAMMY nomination at the 34rd GRAMMY Awards for Best Alternative Music Album for Nevermind. They won their first GRAMMY for 1995 in the same category for MTV Unplugged In New York.
  • Did you know? The band went through several name options, including Pen Cap Chew, Bliss, Ted Ed Fred, and Skid Row, before settling on Nirvana.
