- Born Whitney Elizabeth Houston on Aug. 9, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey. Died Feb. 11, 2012, in Beverly Hills, California.
- Whitney Houston's self-titled 1985 debut went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, spawning her first chart-toppers, "Saving All My Love For You," "How Will I Know" and "Greatest Love Of All."
- Houston performed "Saving All My Love For You" at the 28th GRAMMY Awards in 1986. That same year, she won her first career GRAMMY for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female for the song. She won Album Of The Year for 1993 for the soundtrack for The Bodyguard.
- Did you know? Houston's Album Of The Year-nominated debut album was the first album by a female to yield three No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits.
- "We Will Always Love You: A GRAMMY Salute To Whitney Houston," a one-hour GRAMMY special, aired on CBS on Nov. 16, 2012. The TV special featured performances by Yolanda Adams, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, and CeCe Winans.
- Houston established the Whitney Houston Foundation in 1989 to aid sick and homeless children, while working toward teaching children to read, building inner city parks and playgrounds, and the prevention of child abuse.
