David Brockie, co-founder and vocalist of GRAMMY-nominated metal act GWAR, died March 23. A cause of death has not been disclosed. He was 50. Known by his stage name Oderus Urungus, Brockie co-founded GWAR while attending Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., as a marketing experiment. Following the release of their debut album, 1988's Hell-O, they released 1991's America Must Be Destroyed, which cracked the Billboard 200. They earned their first GRAMMY nomination in 1992 for Best Music Video — Long Form for "Phallus In Wonderland." They received a second nomination in 1995 for Best Metal Performance for "S.F.W." GWAR's most recent release, 2013's Battle Maximus, peaked at No. 7 on Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums chart.
