The GRAMMY Foundation today announced the schedule for its 2009 GRAMMY Career Day events, a national program presented by the Gibson Foundation under the GRAMMY Foundation's GRAMMY in the Schools banner that brings top music industry professionals together with high school students to present an insider's perspective on working in the music and recording industries.
The program, now in its 21st year, kicked off on Oct. 28, 2008, in Nashville, Tenn., and on Nov. 6 in Atlanta and will continue throughout the school year with events in 10 cities across the United States including Chicago; Houston; Los Angeles; Memphis, Tenn.; Miami; New York; Philadelphia; San Francisco; Seattle; and Washington, D.C.
"Our GRAMMY in the Schools music education programs are uniquely relevant, far-reaching, and designed for impact," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. "Throughout the 21 years that we've offered our GRAMMY Career Day program, we've proudly featured the top artists and outstanding music professionals who reflect the ever-changing landscape of our industry. Our partnership with them provides students with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to interact directly with this talented group of professionals and gain real-world insights into the broad range of career options available in the music industry."
GRAMMY Career Day begins with a panel comprised of recording and music industry talents interacting with students in a dynamic "talk show" format. Following the panel discussion, students attend one of numerous interactive workshops offered on topics such as songwriting, engineering, production, instrumental techniques, marketing and public relations, music video production and new media careers.
Again this year, GRAMMY Career Day will offer a special workshop in graphic design and a recording package design contest. The contest, offered in select Chapter cities across the United States, will determine a winner whose design will be featured at www.grammyintheschools.com and on several GRAMMY Foundation education program print materials as well as the CD package for the 2009 GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles recording.
"The commitment of Gibson Guitar and Baldwin Piano to music education continues to be vital and strong," said Henry Juszkiewicz, chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar and Baldwin Piano. "A lifelong appreciation of music is fostered in childhood with programs such as GRAMMY Career Day, which reaches out to young people across the country and provides valuable information about the range of career options in the music industry."
