Local high school and GRAMMY U members were invited to attend GRAMMY SoundChecks with 3 Doors Down at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, N.J., on July 26. After enjoying some traditional Philadelphia eats, 3 Doors Down's soundcheck was a huge hit with the students, and some even briefly took the microphone after lead vocalist Brad Arnold teased, "I bet a lot of you can sing this better than me." After, students asked the band about their rise from a small-town band to stardom. Arnold recalled, "How we got signed…it was like a fairy tale."
Students also learned about the other jobs and responsibilities involved on a band's tour. Throughout, the message was clear: The music business is often the best place in the world to work, but it's a grueling schedule, especially on the road. To close the event, the band signed posters and took photos with the students, who left with a greater sense of the realities of life for a working band.
