The GRAMMY Foundation and the Atlanta Chapter hosted a GRAMMY SoundChecks With "Big," the Atlanta Ballet's collaboration with Antwan "Big Boi" Patton of OutKast. Attending GRAMMY U students were able to learn about and witness this innovative ballet fusing the visual experience of Atlanta's professional ballet company with hip-hop music. "Big" features performances by Atlanta's own GRAMMY Award-winning Big Boi, Sleepy Brown, Janelle MonĂ¡e, Joi Gilliam, Scar, Big Rube, Rock D and members of the musical group Konkrete.
Chapter Trustee Dee Dee Murray moderated a discussion with Atlanta Ballet Executive Director Barry Hughson, who introduced the students to the concept of the hip-hop ballet and how the project came to fruition. Following the discussion, students were treated to a performance of the ballet's first act.
