The San Francisco Chapter and the GRAMMY Foundation hosted the GRAMMY SoundChecks program with R&B singer Chris Brown and his touring team at The Grand on March 28.

Oakland high school music students addressed a panel of experts from Brown's touring group including manager Tina Davis, stage dancers, and band members. Questions spanned from maintaining physical health on the road, songwriting and vocal health, to education and succeeding in the business.

Students were able to see that it takes a team to help a young artist succeed, and they learned how Brown draws from his own self-determination, hard work, confidence, and joy in the work to meet his goals. This was a unique session of GRAMMY SoundChecks — truly peer-to-peer in nature — and brought encouragement and inspiration to our local youth musicians.
