On Aug. 28 a group of 30 high school and GRAMMY U students experienced a special GRAMMY SoundChecks with singer/songwriter Edwin McCain. Since his 1993 debut, McCain has caught the attention of many with his Top 10 single "I'll Be," his Top 40 hit "I Could Not Ask For More," and live performances.
This unique opportunity to attend a special rehearsal with McCain and his band was well received by the students. Following the rehearsal, McCain held an interactive question-and-answer discussion that was moderated by Simon Horrocks, Atlanta Chapter Board member and drummer for the Freddy Jones Band. McCain spoke about his long road to becoming a recognized artist, touring, his struggle with alcohol and new-found sobriety, and the importance of family and friends. He shared with the students his creative process, musical inspiration and what music means to him while leaving them with tips for succeeding in today's music industry.
