To kick off the Austin City Limits Music Festival weekend in Austin, Texas, 11 high school students from Austin High School and 30 GRAMMY University Network members from across Texas joined together for a GRAMMY SoundChecks with Gnarls Barkley.
GRAMMY U members and high school students had an opportunity to participate in an interactive question-and-answer session with multi-instrumentalist and producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and rapper/vocalist Cee-Lo Green (Thomas Callaway). The students asked a wide range of questions covering topics such as breaking into the industry, songwriting, stage presence, as well as what new music the band has been listening to. Danger Mouse talked about his hands-on approach to making music and the origins of their stage names. Students also asked about the unique styles making up Gnarls Barkley's music and how it helped them break into the industry. Cee-Lo replied "It's sweet and it's sour, as long as you have good taste, that's all that matters."
After the entertaining discussion, Gnarls Barkley and the band took the stage to play a set of their most upbeat tunes for the students.
