The San Francisco Chapter, along with the GRAMMY Foundation, offered GRAMMY SoundChecks with GRAMMY Award winner Nelly Furtado at Oakland's Paramount Theater. This event brought 20 GRAMMY University Network students together to hear her band prepare for the second to last show of the Get Loose tour and meet with Furtado and the tour staff.

Furtado delighted the GRAMMY U students with her performances during the sound check. She then brought out her live sound engineer, guitar player, drummer, lighting designer and the operator of the playback (of the Timbaland tracks) for an extensive question-and-answer session. Students questions ranged from live sound techniques to her choices in publishing and collaborations. An interesting highlight of the discussion was that Furtado has used the same live sound engineer and guitar player since beginning as a touring artist. The GRAMMY U students left the event with a deeper understanding of the importance of forming solid relationships in the music industry.

The event was presented by Verizon.
