On Oct. 19, the Memphis Chapter of The Recording Academy hosted GRAMMY SoundChecks with Matt White at Houston High School. Thirty-five students were given the opportunity to ask questions about White's career. Questions ranged from how New York has affected him as an artist to how illegal downloading has affected his career, and his writing process. White engaged the students with enthusiastic stories about his experiences as a touring musician. The students then asked him to perform some of his songs on acoustic guitar and he did so graciously. At the conclusion of the performance, students networked with Geffen Records executives Darren Wolf and Kenny Ornberg. Others took pictures, got autographs, and even played some of White's songs on their own guitars. The SoundChecks event was a success and many students inquired about GRAMMY U for the future.
