The Chicago Chapter, in partnership with the GRAMMY Foundation, hosted a GRAMMY Soundchecks With Sara Bareilles on April 17 at the House of Blues in Chicago. The event gave 27 GRAMMY U members a chance to go behind the scenes for a first-hand look at a touring artist at work.
The session began with the students watching Bareilles soundcheck while she interacted with them from her piano seat. Following soundcheck, the students attended an intimate 30-minute question-and-answer session in the House of Blues' famous Foundation Room. Bareilles discussed how to balance going to college and pursuing a career in music, how excited she is to be headlining her own tour, and the importance of a new artist doing as many shows as possible — no matter the size of the audience.
Throughout the session, the students were engaged and captivated by Bareilles' humility and candor. The Chapter received many positive comments from GRAMMY U students and looks forward to presenting similar programming in the near future.
