The GRAMMY Foundation and the Texas Chapter hosted a GRAMMY SoundChecks with GRAMMY winner Wynonna Judd for students from Austin High School and Bowie High School, and Austin-area GRAMMY U members. Students were given a behind-the-scenes look during a private soundcheck as Judd prepared for her performance at the Paramount Theatre that evening.
Judd impressed the students with her remarkable vocals and great sense of humor. "This is a soundcheck," Judd said to the students as she asked for less guitar sound in the monitors. "We do this so we don't suck," she joked.
During the following question-and-answer session, Judd spoke with students about preparing for performances, her inspiration for writing music and her many accomplishments over her 25-year career. One student asked, "How do you keep your voice in such amazing shape?" To which Judd replied, "Self-care is key…no dairy and no fried foods."
Aside from providing advice and encouragement to students wanting to pursue their passion, Judd graced attendees with a wide-range of memorable quotes throughout the event, reminding each student that, "Being famous is not the reason you do this…pick something you love so much that you're willing to do it for free. Become so good at it that people are willing to pay you for it."
