Back in their teenage years, Ontario alt-rock band Locket spent their nights attending local punk and hardcore shows. More than a decade later, the trio is reviving the sound of '90s and '00s rock music they always loved — and that nostalgia is bursting out of their new single, "Sonic Bloom."
"Backflip, weightless around the room/ Flowers thrown over your head, it's true/ That I'm all in/ It feels like falling further into you, total sonic bloom," frontman Brad Garcia emotes over a classic punk guitar riff.
In this episode of Press Play, Locket offers a spinning performance of "Sonic Bloom." The band performs the track from an industrial studio, cluttered with vintage decor, invoking a similar energy as the magnetic garage bands of the 2000s.
"[This song] is a celebration of love, embracing happiness, appreciating what we have," Garcia said in a press statement. "On a personal level, it's a love letter to my wife, my friends, and this band."
"Sonic Bloom" is the lead single from their upcoming album, Superluminal, which arrives Nov. 10. The group has since released three more tracks from Superluminal, "Tear Me to Pieces," "Rearview Memory" and "Kilayear."
