Music Industry Averages Lowest Profit Margin
According to a new Ernst & Young study, the music industry tallied an average 11 percent profit margin from 2006–2010, tied for last place out of 10 media sectors with film and TV production and electronic games. According to the report interactive media scored the highest profitability growth rate at 15 percent from 2006–2010 while the music industry's profitability growth rate was down 5 percent. Cable operators boasted the best profit margins at 38 percent. Still, the report states the media and entertainment industry as a whole is showing greater profitability than many other industries.
