Sheryl Sheinafia packs a hefty emotional punch into a delicate musical package with "Earn It." The song's lyrics ask a partner to press the reset button — though trust has been lost in the relationship, and she knows she's at fault, she's hoping for a second chance to prove her dedication.
In the latest episode of Press Play at Home, Sheinafia underscores the track's vulnerability. Staring directly into the camera as she delivers raw lines like "And I know you said a hundred times/ You don't give second chances/ But I'm hoping that you change your mind," her message is clear: She's willing to lay her heart bare, if that's what it takes to earn her partner's trust back.
The Indonesia-born singer-songwriter has been releasing music since the early 2010s, layering a progressively broader range of stylings into her songs over the years. Since she began releasing music in English in 2017, Sheinafia has become more and more genre-omnivorous. "Earn It" is a perfect example of her fluidity, bundling warm, '80s-influenced pop with R&B-informed vocal runs.
"Earn It" is the second installment in a trilogy of singles Sheinafia released with Indonesian music company Musica Studios. Upon releasing the third single, "Dedicate," in March, the singer announced that it would be her last release for a while, "but not my last tango with music," she wrote on Instagram. "Can't reveal what I have in my independent store."
