Americana group the Band of Heathens show their appreciation for their Austin, Texas, roots in their new song, "Long Lost Son."
"Long lost son of the Brazos/ Long lost son of the Brazos River Valley," frontman Ed Juri croons in the track. "Staring down the wonders of a world I never knew/ But all I could think of was coming home to you."
Between tours and recording sessions, they might not always be in physical proximity to their hometown, but that makes coming home all the more meaningful. That’s why their performance in this episode of Press Play is particularly special: The five members of The Band of Heathens deliver a feel-good rendition of the track at The Finishing School studio in Austin, amplifying the song's homecoming feel.
"Long Lost Son" is a B-side from The Band of Heathens' eighth studio album, Simple Things, which they released in March. On April 17, the band began leg one of their U.S. tour, which will wrap in Waverly, Alabama on June 11; they’ll return to Texas again in August, and will play shows in Lafayette, Louisiana, and Montgomery, Alabama, in October.
