On Sept. 26 the Memphis Chapter and the GRAMMY Foundation hosted a GRAMMY SoundChecks with veteran rock band Journey in New Orleans. Prior to the band's concert that evening, a group of 20 New Orleans-area high school and college students gathered in the venue's backstage media room to participate in an intimate question-and-answer session. During the session, band members Jonathan Cain, Deen Castronovo, Neal Schon, and Ross Valory answered questions about their careers, songwriting and how they broke into the music business. The students also asked questions about the touring life of a musician, dealing with fame, and how they found new lead vocalist Arnel Pineda on YouTube. At the conclusion of the session, students were led to the arena floor where they observed the band's soundcheck, enjoying a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the preparation of a rock concert.
