The New York Chapter partnered with the GRAMMY Foundation to host a Verizon-sponsored GRAMMY SoundChecks event with eight-time GRAMMY winner Phil Collins and "Tarzan" cast members at the legendary Richard Rodgers Theatre. Approximately 70 high school and GRAMMY University Network students from the metro area attended the event.

The SoundChecks began with an engaging question-and-answer session with Phil Collins and the students, moderated by the New York Chapter Executive Director Elizabeth Healy. Collins then introduced Josh Strickland, who plays Tarzan in the Broadway musical. Strickland swung down to the stage in typical Tarzan fashion, with assistance from the rigger, which lead to a brief flying demonstration showing how Tarzan and the other actors navigate the aerial performances on stage.

Strickland then introduced his leading lady Jenn Gambatese, who portrays Jane, and performed a number from the show titled "For The First Time." He then welcomed Collins back to the stage and they performed the song "Who Better Than Me." Collins graciously took time to speak with the students and press before and after the event. Students were given gift bags courtesy of Disney Theatricals, which included the official cast souvenir book, Tarzan The Broadway Musical cast recording and vouchers for two free tickets to a future "Tarzan" performance.
