On Sept. 19 the New York Chapter held its first GRAMMY SoundChecks of the academic year at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York for a live performance of Broadway's "Rock Of Ages." A five-time Tony Award nominee, "Rock Of Ages" harkens back to 1987 on the Sunset Strip where a small-town girl and a big-city rocker fall in love to a backdrop of songs from he '80s.
After a two-hour performance, which included hits from Asia, Pat Benatar, Journey, Night Ranger, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Twisted Sister, and Whitesnake, the show came to a close. Attendees were then escorted to Trattoria Trecolori, a neighboring Italian restaurant, where they were joined by performers James Carpinello, Mitchell Jarvis, Constantine Maroulis, and the remaining members of the 20-person ensemble. The attendees were also joined by the creative team including show director Kristin Hanggi, producer Carl Levin and company manager Susan Martin. Students asked questions on topics ranging from vocal technique, production, casting, and the creation of the show itself. The cast provided insightful points on Broadway and how they reached such a pivotal point in their careers.
