Any professional singer will tell you that their voice, like any other instrument, requires maintenance. But given there's no such thing as a luthier for your larynx, what's one to do?
It's simple: head for the produce aisle, says Justin Hawkins, who sings, writes songs and plays "electronic guitar" for long-running rock heroes the Darkness. What he requires on his rider may not cost much, but it could massively impact his performance.
"I need ginger — it's got to be fresh ginger — garlic, lemon and some sort of water-boiling device," Hawkins says. "I have to make a special concoction, which helps me to sing beautifully every night."
