In the eyes of soul musician MAJOR., prayer is universal. And with his new song "I Prayed for You (Said a Prayer)," he's praying for everybody.
"This is a love song — not just for the one I love, but for all of the Earth," MAJOR. prefaces in this episode of Positive Vibes Only. "There is a lot going on in this world. I don't want you to ever think you're alone."
As MAJOR. begins his performance of the track, he sits on a stool, centered in an empty room and accompanied by a guitarist. He then traces his hopes for the future: "I said, 'End this senseless violence/ Put a rest to prideful gain/ There's a message in the silence/ That can heal our earthly pain'/ I prayed for you."
"I Prayed for You (Said a Prayer)" is a B-side from MAJOR.'s newest EP, The Hope of My Soul. According to a press statement, the Texas-born singer was inspired to create the project after receiving a "poignant" text from the late Chadwick Boseman.
On Aug. 30, MAJOR. will perform the music from The Hope of My Soul live at the GRAMMY Museum, following a string of appearances at the Harlem Festival of Culture, Richmond Jazz & Music Fest, and more.
