Fireplaces and rap music aren’t exactly a common pairing, but Greg "Olskool Ice-Gre" Lewis and Daphne "E.P. Da Hellcat" Mitchell — together, known as rap duo Abstract Mindstate — made it quite the alluring combo.
In the latest episode of Press Play At Home, the Chicago-born MCs get comfy on a couch next to a fire (OK, a video image of a fire) to perform their 2021 single "I Feel Good," complete with a living room DJ.
Sporting coordinating gray sweatsuits, E.P. and Gre trade verses about, well, feeling good.
"No more stressing, worried to silence God/ So I don't, I just pray, and I'm loving my odds," E.P. raps as Gre bounces along. Gre mirrors the positive sentiment: "I wake up every day, blessed as heavenly/ Before I ain't say much, now I got much to say."
The pair penned the upbeat track with Kanye West, who spurred Abstract Mindstate to return to making music in 2021. The duo had called it quits in 2005 after helping put Chicago on the hip-hop scene in the early 2000s, but West suggested they reunite while Gre was working as an A&R rep for the rapper’s label, G.O.O.D. Music — and the rest is history.
